Learn to Play the Guitar


Gabriel offers private lessons to students of all levels. Acoustic and electric guitar are welcome. Private lessons are catered to each individual student's needs, whether you are learning your first chord, itching to dive into music theory, or want to master that thrilling lick.

Have you always wanted to learn to play guitar? Are you looking to improve your guitar skills? The Guitar Series at the Freight & Salvage in Downtown Berkeley is for you!


This course is recommended for those who have played some basic guitar chords. Topics will include strumming with good solid rhythm, playing the 12-Bar Blues, learning scales, reading music, and improvising guitar solos in a comfortable, low pressure environment. This course is repeatable, as the songs will change with each session.


This course is a continuation from Beginning Guitar and is recommended for those who can strum through a song with basic chords. Topics will include barre chords, power chords, 12-Bar Blues in E, new scales and fingerpicking. The songs will incorporate some of these elements. This course is repeatable, as the songs will change with each session.


Intermediate guitar is recommended for those who are ready to go beyond basic chords and strumming. Possible topics include music theory, different chords and strumming patterns, fingerpicking, flatpicking, technique development, learning the fretboard, scales, expressive and colorful lead and rhythm techniques, as well as a wide variety of songs. This course is repeatable, as the topics and songs will vary with each session.
